Larger than life.
That's how we universally describe our heroes. No matter who they may have been they were somehow larger, greater. It's easy when it's a celebrity, there are so many reasons to think of them as bigger. But when it's someone you know they are measured by the values of love and respect. And sometimes their personality demands greater recognition for their influence and affect on we who knew them best, and loved for who they were.
My uncle was very much the patriarch of his family, always willing to listen or advise. He was my father's hero, to him he was an older brother, confidant, father and wise friend. He was also a loving husband and father of two. He was so much to so many.
Quiet confidence, my uncle had it in abundance and not without reason. Success, sure he had it by any measure.
But this portrait was from a time before that. From when restarting his life in a new place. And still he exudes confidence, pride, serenity, and certainty.
